‘The Samurai of Japan is like the cherry, which blossoms and dies so suddenly and so beautifully.’
– Japanese poem

Following the spring bloom of cherry blossoms in Japan, Mono No Aware is a photographic insight into the annual get-togethers during this extraordinary season. The blossoms’ moment of resplendence is surprisingly short, lasting only a couple of days, and within a week they have faded. ‘Hanami’ gatherings underneath blossom trees (known as ‘Sakura’), are a mixture of meditation, ritual and beauty; a time to open the highest quality bottle of sake.
